The PESETA was Spain's currency between 1869 and 2002. It was
currency with legal tender) .
Pesseta is a Catalan word that means piece or fraction which is where the name of the currency come from
with the diminutive form of the word peça.
Spanish peseta commonly does not have any single symbol or special character. The common abbreviations were "Pt", "Pta", "Pts" and "Ptas", and even using superior letter: "Ptas".
However,in 1999 euro (€) replaced the peseta on currency exchange boards.
On January 2002, Euro coins and notes were introduced and on 1 March 2002 the peseta lost its legal tender status in Spain and Andorra.
The conversion rate was 1 euro = 166.386 ESP.
